Audrey Paduda
PhD Candidate [2023 - to date]
BSc in Biology, minors in Chemistry & Environmental Science from Virginia Commonwealth University
I was born and raised on the East Coast - in Virginia specifically - so I have been well acquainted with the coastal Atlantic for as long as I can remember. I am thrilled to be taking this next step in my education pursuing a PhD in a marine biochemistry lab!
I am primarily interested in reef-building corals, and in researching ways - on the cellular level - to engender resilience in them. I believe we can use science to help these keystone species survive - and hopefully also thrive - despite the rise in average sea surface temperature that has already caused so much destruction to our reef communities.
When I am not in class or in the lab I enjoy backpacking, camping, yoga, and also sitting on my couch doing nothing.
After I finish my PhD I intend to devote my professional career to fighting the impacts of climate change in our oceans.
